International Women’s Day Special!

Their landmark discovery in 2012 revolutionised the field of genetic engineering. Dr. Jennifer Doudna and Dr. Emmanuelle Charpentier’s discovery of a new gene editing technology from the immune system of bacteria rightly won them the 2020 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. CRISPR-Cas9 editing is a powerful technology that relies on the innate ability of a specific protein (Cas9) to cut DNA as directed. The protein, often called a genetic scissor, has been repurposed by scientists to rewrite and reprogram the code of life. From creating drought resistant plants to curing deadly blood disorders, the CRISPR-Cas9 technology is being used to do it all! To know more about the story, have a glance here!
